Has it hit top of the BNP and NF book list yet. Or is the Beano still the front runner?

2

Michael Leonard,

Edinburgh 15/07/2007 02:14:36

I suspect that the BNP and NF's favourite reading is -"How to be the most racist country in the World" a guide by the planet's foremost experts - the Government and people of Japan.

The PC industry will be having a collective heart attack over this. He He.

Just ordered my copy........... its a bloody COMIC FFS..... can't these damn do-gooders see the difference....

I watched 'Blazing Saddles' last week - a hilarious movie poking fun at racists and bigots which could not be made today thanks the the PC mad world.......

5

Boy Wonder,

I love it every time the PC Brigade has a collective fit! :)

The book WAS written in '31, when things were quite different. And it's not like it has any literary merit.

Over-reaction leading to publicity .... and ultimately, all publicity tends to be good publicity!

These PC idiots need to get real-it was written 80 years ago f'cryin out loud...Think of it as a historical document rather than try to ban it.

'You would not stay in big brother long speaking like that'
How, on any level, could that be a bad thing?

9

Truth Finder,

The PC mob control the media agenda but are well out of step as ever.

Rob me blind,

Good I am glad it has been selling well and to hell with all those who want to rewrite history this things happened and if we get rid of them then how can we move on and improve. We have a group who want apologies and payments for their ancestors being brought here as slaves well should they not ask themselves where they would be now if that hadn’t happened

11

Monymusk,

Between 1880 and 1920 the population of Congo *halved*. Around 10 million people were the victims of murder, starvation and exhaustion induced by over-work, and disease -- mostly as a result of the actions of King Leopold of Belgium and his countrymen, who treated it like a private estate. A comic like this "written 80 years ago" (as though this has any bearing on anything) attempted to whitewash the truth of the horror the Belgians inflicted on the Congolese. There's nothing PC about wanting to highlight the reality behind such "light-hearted fun". Would anyone really countenance a comic-book making light of the carnage in Iraq, which has seen possibly hundreds of thousands of civilians killed? Even in its historical context this kind of publication had a cynical political intent. It shouldn't be banned -- but people should be aware of the facts.

Yonthing,

Every one of you is a hypocrite.

How many comments were made today against the use of animals in circuses. Circus animals are traditional, but you no longer want to see them.

Here you claim this book is fine beacuse it is part of our history, part of our tradition.

WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE?

p.s. playing devils advocate. All these issues should be resolved by informed public debate, not by legislation. The PC brigade can scream and shout, and the public at large will laugh at them.

I have an early copy of the Just So stories by Rudyard Kipling dated 1913. By today's standards they would be considered very un PC and racist, because of a couple of chapters which contain the 'n' word. I also have a modern version of the Just So stories which has been edited to exclude this particular word.

I, personally do not have a problem with the editing of the modern edition, the stories have not lost their magic or enchantment. Society evolves and many things which were deemed acceptable in 1913 are not considered acceptable now.

PC brigade and Baby Boomers are all going mad, ban this ban that, smoking drinking, farting in public next we will have to let rip only at home, bring back some common sense and freedom of speach expression and liberty. This is a comic book from the past and is being taken too seriosly by liberal baby booming nuts.

The CRE might want to look up the term 'own goal' in their Football Rules Handbook.

What a bunch of stupid t***s.

#14...Nursey...doubt they would ban farting in public. These people are so anally retentive they wouldn't have the knowledge base from which to make a case.

I think the late 20th/early/21st century will be known as the crazy years.

Not my description but that of a famous writer, Robert Heinlein.

I was searching for a site with some of his pithier comments and found this.

Some of his remarks on here amongst other absolute classics, hope a few of you enjoy them.

Ah look its my pet troll and stalker, Hunkey Dorey, aka William Wallace and Ashley @ 16.

No comment to make as usual just a little jibe at another poster. Don't try to read the Tintin comics .... they might be a bit above your level.

Suck-McCrunchie,

Doomster Hill 15/07/2007 13:42:16

12. Yonthing

Remind me why I am a hypocrite?

While undoubtedly there has been appalling treatment of blacks by whites in the past, which still exists in more watered down subtle forms.

My view of the most offensive was the hunting/shooting of native Australians as sport by the British.

The post was to show a change in public perception of what is acceptable. Looking at the link I posted - its amazing this was regarded as acceptable, mainstream entertainment so recently.

However, its the childrens book Tintin we are talking about here. I feel it is a good way to show the offensive nature of what was regarded as the norm at that time, and its hardly advocating Mein Kampf.

Great stuff.

Little Black Sambo, anyone?

Or 'The Three Golliwogs' by Enid Blyton? They are called Gollie, Woggie and N**ger. The book sells well on ebay.

#19 Joanna, Flatter yourself if you must. You come across to most as a little miss know all,and when challenged you confirm all of our suspicions. So grow up, and stop trying to be top of the class all of the time. You failed in your most recent know it all attempts. Answers are as follows...........Hunky Dorey..... correct William Wallace.......... Incorrect. Ashley.........Incorrect. May I suggest that you continue to read Harry Potter and Tin Tin until such times as you reach the age of maturity .In the mean time stop being a complete bore.

Homo Sapiens,

Strange the incompetent CRE PC brigade has not found it necessary to comment about another book originally written and published at the same time, one much more damaging than Tintin adventures in the Congo... Now apparently these books find a new generation of readers... Why has the CRE not condemned the re-publication and re-printing of Hitler's "Mein Kampf" the racists' modern bible? It is available for sale in many bookstores and even newsstands in a number of languages... Hitler's book inflamed the passions that led to WWII, and 6 million jews, gypsies, communists, homosexuals, and other "misfits" being murdered... how many people exactly died because of Tintin and Herge?

25

Thanks btw ...... you make me sound so young!!!

LMFAO

27

Joanna,

Cambs, England 15/07/2007 20:36:11

Hunkey Dorey

Answer me this question ...... why do you think its OK for the Tintin books to be published as they were written? When that publication could cause offence and possible racist attacks on others?

After your defence of Ireland on the main news thread........ would you feel the same if the books were rehashing old stereotypes about the Irish?

Look at the years of the Famine when the Irish were ridiculed and portrayed as monkeys.......... do you think it is right for those sort of scurrilous, offensive and demeaning cartoons to be bound in a book and sold in modern bookshops?

For the record I don't.

Typical over reaction from the dogooders, nobody these days would lift an eye brow at it. You have to see it in contect with its times and use it as social history

There happens too often nowadays 21st century attitudes applied to early 20th century media?
