Typical bloody gun happy Americans. An 11 year old boy roaming around with a high powered handgun, loony. And they wonder why so many young boys end up killing their classmates.
He chased it for three hours before finishing it off. Whether or not you like hogs, imagine it's suffering
over the hours.
This must really be the family from hell

What a boaring story.

Oh, I thought it was another Tam Paton story.

6

Conan,

Here 27/05/2007 08:26:59

Seen the picture - totaly bogus. This was at most a 600# hog, with the boy who allegedly shot it seated far behind so as to make the hog look larger. Kids with guns in the woods? OK if properly managed. Kid in the woods on a hog hunt - too dangerous. Hogs take some hard killing and the big males will usually head for the threat and not retreat. Kind of do question the prudence of having the young fellow handling a .500 S&W-type handgun which most adults can barely manage, even with a muzzle brake. All-in-all - not the best example of the sporting life I've seen lately - but that meat will be mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-GOOOOOOOOD.

I felt sorry for the hog.I think Conan is near the mark, where were the parents of this child?. I understand that man is a hunter but surely its killing for the sake of killing. Couldnt this dreadful child just go to Mcdonalds and get a hamburger. ??????

entropent,

all you posters who feel sorry for the hog are either vegetarians or hypocrites.

Looks like a 1,050 pound hog to me.

The article said the boy's dad and other adults were with him and aiming rifles at the hog to protect the boy in case the animal charged. I don't know why people frown on hunting wild game. If it is within legal restrictions and done safely and with respect, then I just don't see why people frown on it. Like Entropent said in #9 - you eat meat and that meat came from a slaugherhouse. You know in a slaughterhouse the common method of killing is to shoot a special gun into the brain, it fires a projectile a limited distance into the brain and then it comes back. It's the same thing.

I note that very pro-war posters Dragonhead & Conan look down on killing wild hogs. But they love for people to be killed in wars.

Could have been another Tam Paton Story quite easily Douglas from bathgate.
Here's a reminder for you to keep your young boys away from the fat creep in the Lothians.

#7--Conan---this 11yr old is an honor student at a private school & was in no danger, for his father & others were trailing with *high-powered rifles in case it turned on him...he didn't get the gun from *fast-Eddy* down the street:)..he was trained to use just that kind of weapon....this is called hunting for food...not sport...

#3, It is not unusual to butcher an animal and achieve 50% usable meat from the total weight. There would be more usable products from the fat, skin, blood, bones, etc., but the hunter's family was talking about the weight of meat.
When I was in the Army and stationed in California, we always had specially selected marksmen with loaded rifles when we went on maneuvers in one of the training areas due to the feral hogs, european varieties of pigs that had interbread with native breeds and produced HUGE animals. I saw one that was bigger than my quarter ton truck (Jeep). Couldn't shoot it though, we were only allowed to kill one if it was attacking.

While stationed in scotland i grew to love the country and people. But one thing i never grew to like was this whole, Living on past glory thing that the whole of europe seems to need to survive. Many of the people of europe love to bash the us but, want us to run here and there to defend this one and that one so they dont have to dirty their hands. Get your behinds in the game folks time moves on. Were already so far ahead of you its funny. Besides we have to love guns over here, we have to defend everyone, remember?

Anyway, what can you do with a culture/nation where the men wear skirts?

Braveheart oh Braveheart.....where are you when we need you?

I know it's mostly hollywood and myth laddies, but you need the testosterone boost nonetheless, even it it's on cinema.

Byron Massey I get the feeling that you are a revolting lump of a human being.

That poor creature must have suffered terribly before it died, that is just disgusting.

Before you open your big fat gob Byron Massey, can it! you piece of amoebic dysentry.

22

albanoch,

kyoto Japan 28/05/2007 00:00:49

Gentle readers please don't get yer blood pressure up over a pig....there are thooosands o' them roaming about in panda cars. And did any of you see the pig and/or the brave boy who killed it? It was a case of " a wee fat pig kills a big fat pig" .In the photo shoot{cameras}t'was difficut to tell who was who until the boy, who was sitting beside his victim, moved.
It WAS a big fat pig and with the proper real American macho man training he's getting someday soon he'll garduate from a a wee fat pig to a big fat pig....and one day will acquire the large bouncy gut ,just like the one father has hanging over his belt.

23

Byron Massey,

USA 28/05/2007 01:04:21

Hecate in the ether...

What's your point? I can't participate in the food chain? Am I not an animal? I am not a herbivore. I am an omnivore.

You my dear get too too emotional. Are you related to this hog? Is this family pain?

Oh, and albanoch....

moron......you have problems too. sorry. did the fat boy shoot your boyfriend?

24

Hecate in the ether,

28/05/2007 08:27:08

Dearest Byron,

Of course you can participate in the food chain, you have to, I suspect, to bolster your masculinity and re-assure yourself that you are still attractive to the females of your ilk, ie red-necked, billy-bob toothed loud and obnoxious vulgarians.

Now as far as 'family pain' is concerned you are correct. It revolts me when 'humans' like you, puff up your chests (regardless of age) and go chasing innocent creatures to an agonising death thinking that you are superior in the process. You are not. You are merely an embarrasment, and quite frankly, I do not wish to belong to your family (shudderrrrr), I would much rather have respect for other species that live alongside us.

Testosterone boost? hunting make you feel like a man then? Bet when you polish your rifle you give it a few more strokes than absolutely necessary eh Byron?, careful, you might just excite the poor thing too much someday, that old hair trigger?, willing to bet a couple of bucks you know what that's all about too redeneck.

25

kafer,

28/05/2007 12:27:06

I think something is being missed here. Everyone crying out about the "crime" of killing this hog...I would bet money that each and every one of them eat pork in some form or another. The fact that the little man finished the hog off whe most would have given up and then the hog could have suffered for days speaks volumes about his character.
Have any of you seen the amount of damage these feral hogs do to the land....enormous amounts. These animals arent natural they are freaks of nature caused by breeding of domesticated and wild pigs.....I say he did a great job as a hunter and as a responsible citizen

26

Dox,

28/05/2007 12:46:03

If this were a Maori boy most of the anti-hunting posters here would have never posted.

27

Neither father or son will feel so pleased with themselves if one accidentally shoots the other whilst on one of their merry hunting trips.

The food chain indeed.
