ARBROATH 1-3 STRANRAER
STRANRAER made easy work of their Second Division opponents. Following a goalless first half, David Hamilton opened the scoring after 51 minutes with a deft finish from ten yards. The visitors were gifted their second goal in unfortunate circumstance
s when Hugh Davidson deflected the ball past his own goalkeeper.

Hamilton hit a third goal for the visitors with a rasping 20-yard effort into the top right hand corner of the net. Alan Brazil pulled back a late goal for Arbroath with a fine solo effort but this proved to be little more than a consolation.

AYR UTD 0-1 STIRLING ALBION (AET)

STEVEN Boyack hit the only goal of the game in extra time as the ten men of Stirling Albion came through a towsy encounter that saw eight bookings and a red card brandished by referee Cammy Melville.

The best chance of an even 90 minutes fell to Ayr United's Raymond Logan. He rose above the static Stranraer defence to head goalwards from Paul Hyslop's cross. But his towering header was cleared off the line by Stirling defender Ross Forsyth with Myles Hogarth beaten.

BRECHIN CITY 3-2 CLYDE (AET)

STEVE Hampshire hit an injury-time winner for Brechin as Ian Campbell's men came back from an early deficit to beat Clyde. New signing Alex Williams gave Clyde the perfect start to the match with the opening goal after only three minutes.

But Brechin City levelled 13 minutes later through Paul Ritchie.

Graeme Gibson put Brechin ahead for the first time in the match ten minutes from the end. But Neil McGregor levelled after 85 minutes to send the match into extra time before Hampshire hit the winner.

EAST FIFE 0-4 STENHOUSEMUIR

NEW Stenhousemuir signing Greig Denham scored the opening goal 15 minutes into his debut. He hit a spectacular volley from the edge of the area which will already be a contender for goal of the season. Fellow debutant Frankie Carroll added a second goal 90 seconds later from the edge of the box

with a fine low finish into the bottom corner from 18 yards. Colin Cramb added a third in the opening minute of the second half. Joe Savage rounded off the scoring.

PETERHEAD 1-2 BERWICK RANGERS (AET)

SUBSTITUTE Gordon Connelly stunned Peterhead with an extra-time winner for Berwick Rangers.

The home side had made the perfect start when David Hagen's second minute corner was headed onto Martin Bavidge and he made no mistake. Berwick finally got a deserved equaliser after 71 minutes when Gareth Hutchison turned a beyond Mathers to force extra time and Connelly grabbed the winner in the 104th minute.

QoS 4-0 ALBION ROVERS

THE Doonhamers had the better of the first half and deservedly took the lead after 32 minutes though former Livi midfielder Steve Lovell.

Derek Lyle made it two after 51 minutes with a high finish from six yards.

David McNiven added a third goal from the penalty spot after Derek Lyle was brought down inside the area.

Brian McLaughlin completed the scoring late on to complete a miserable day for Rovers.

QUEEN'S PARK 0-3 HAMILTON ACADEMICAL

FIRST Division Hamilton Academical took some time to get into this match at Hampden and the first half produced few genuine chances for either side.

Steve Thomson gave Hamilton the lead on 58 minutes with a diving header which went low into the corner of the net.

Twenty minutes later a Brian Carrigan corner was headed in at the near post by Brown Ferguson . Lee Hardy finished off a comprehensive win.

RAITH ROVERS 3-1 ELGIN CITY (AET)

RAITH Rovers needed extra time to clinch a place in the second round. Raith went ahead after 21 minutes with a curling 25 yard effort from Scott Crabbe but Elgin were level just seven minutes later when Mark Booth drilled the loose ball from 16 yards out.

Three minutes into extra time Paul McManus fired home from seven yards.

And, with just a minute remaining, Stuart Cumming turned a Neil Jablonski cross into his own net.

ROSS COUNTY 2-1 MONTROSE

DAVID Winters booked Ross County's place in the second round with a second-half penalty at Victoria Park.

Montrose stunned the home side with a breakaway goal from Willie Martin after 33 minutes.

John Rankin equalised for County three minutes into first-half injury time and after 59 minutes Montrose's Elliot Smith hauled down Fergus Tiernan to earn himself a yellow card and give Winters the shot from the penalty spot.

ST JOHNSTONE 2-0 ALLOA ATHLETIC

WITH Saints boss Owen Coyle fielding seven new signings it took the home side time to settle. Ex-Hibs man Stephen Dobbie

set Steven Milne up for the opener after 66 minutes, picking out his partner inside the Alloa box for Milne to beat Gary McGlynn from 12 yards out. And it was Dobbie who sealed the win with a solo effort ten minutes later, cutting across the Alloa box before turning and lashing an unstoppable drive beyond a despairing McGlynn.

ST MIRREN 1-0 FORFAR ATHLETIC (AET)

ALAN Reid fired St Mirren into the second round of the Bell's Cup with a late winner at Love Street.

The midfielder cracked a volley past Colin Meldrum in the 99th minute to finally break the deadlock after ninety minutes of regulation time had failed to produce a winner.

St Mirren pressed from the outset and Mark Corcoran, Stewart Kean and Simon Lappin all had chances. David McClune wasted a rare Forfar chance after 76 minutes.
