SCOTLAND'S youngest mother - a 12-year-old girl - has been arrested after a night out.
It is understood the girl, from West Lothian, was detained last week following a drunken incident.

Lothian and Borders Police said the girl, who gave birth to a daughter last month, was arrested, but did not say what the charges were.

The girl, who has not been named, became pregnant aged 11 after having sex with a 15-year-old on a drunken night out in Edinburgh last August.

Both the girl and the child have been put into foster care.

The authorities were called in following reports that the girl smoked up to 20 cigarettes a day and started drinking at the age of 10.

She was said to have quit school after a string of exclusions for fighting with fellow pupils and now receives lessons at a local community centre.

The 15-year-old boy admitted having underage sex at the High Court in Edinburgh last week, having been previously accused of rape. Sentencing was deferred to August 25 for background reports.
