A 32-YEAR-OLD father-of-three says he will hit the campaign trail immediately after being nominated to stand as Labour’s candidate in the forthcoming Hartlepool by-election.
Local ward councillor Iain Wright was nominated from a shortlist of three at a meeting of the Hartlepool constituency Labour party on Friday.

The by-election, which is expected to be held in either September or October, has been caused by sitting MP Peter Mandelson becoming Britain’s European commissioner.

Wright intended to hit the campaign trail yesterday but joked that he would take time out to watch the town’s football team open their new league campaign.
