BackgroundScotland on Sunday supports the cross-party attempts to secure a fair deal for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
We believe the Games should not only deliver regeneration for one of the most deprived areas of Scotland but also should provide a legacy of a nation that fully embraces sport and the health benefits from physical activity.
Scots love sport. They support their heroes to the hilt. But too many of us do so from the sofa or in the pub.
Sport can do so much for Scotland, from lifting our spirits as a Scot wins gold on the world stage to helping tackle the chronic health issues in some parts of our country. But first we need a cultural change, ensuring sport and exercise is at the heart of the country's health strategy. The starting point for that change is increased lottery funding for Glasgow 2014, and we would urge you to join our campaign calling for an additional £150m of lottery cash to be allocated to the Games.
