Hibernian 0
THE wry cheers that greeted the half-time announcement at the Caledonian Stadium that Craig Brewster had relaunched his playing career with a goal for Ross County at the ripe old age of 42 underline how quickly things have changed at Inverness since his departure as manager. For the first time in a while the smiles have come back to the faces of the Inverness fans. Terry Butcher's mini-revival now spans an unbeaten four-game run and the spirit shown in this win underline that the battle is not lost. Not by a long shot.

Goals from David Proctor and Richie Foran do not tell the whole story but the performance does as Inverness are no longer haunted by the burden of relegation. Yes, they are still bottom – now just a point adrift of Falkirk – but as Butcher toasted the success with a glass of wine last night, Mixu Paatelainen wouldn't have been in such a celebratory mood.

"The dressing room is pretty euphoric right now," said Butcher. "The players just wish they could play again on Monday and that shows how confident they are right now. The hard work is still to come but there is a real feelgood factor around the club right now and that can only bode well."

Inverness may prove a popular place for tourists with its scenic views of the highlands, fresh sea breeze and history. However, it's doubtful if many players at Hibs welcome their bi-annual journey up the long and winding road of the A9 having never won there.

Once again Inverness proved very unwelcoming hosts. Playing some slick, free-flowing football, they dominated the Edinburgh side and were well worth their early goal. In fact, they could well have been in front within three minutes as on-form Dougie Imrie rose to meet a Proctor cross only to head wide.

At the other end, Hibs were also looking a threat, with Finnish international Jonatan Johannson leading the charge and he nearly netted from a well-worked three-man move on seven minutes. Derek Riordan found Steven Fletcher in space on the left and his cross was met by the head of Johannson, only for the effort to crash into the side netting.

Caley earned a deserved 15th-minute lead as Eric Odhiambo slipped in Proctor to coolly dispatch past Grzegorz Szamotulski from 10 yards.

Johannson should have squared things up six minutes later after being sent clear by Ross Chisholm. He slipped the ball past the advancing Ryan Esson only to see the ball bounce the wrong side of the post.

As the clock ticked down on the second period, Inverness had a series of chances to underline their superiority. Imrie had the first on 40 minutes as he drove wide from 25 yards. Foran also came close when he attempted to lob Szamoltulski from long range.

There was controversy as Proctor fell inside the Hibs box under the challenge of Rob Jones. Alan Muir, who had only seconds early given Paatelainen his final warning over his touchline conduct, was behind the play as the challenge came in and instantly waved away appeals.

Foran then had one final chance to add to Caley's lead before the break but this time his chip shaved the bar on its way out of play.

Hibernian made a change at the break as they brought on Joe Keenan for the ineffectual Chisholm but the substitution did little to stem the flow of play.

Throughout the game, several Hibs players were posted missing and the lack of fight in their ranks must be a source of worry for Paatelainen in his quest for top-six football. Their day of misery was compounded on 63 minutes as Foran pounced on Imrie's rebounded strike to fire the ball into the net and give Inverness a boost in their survival fight. The win could have been even more resounding as Inverness continued to press for more. Lionel Djebi-Zadi had the best of their efforts when he crashed a late strike into the side-net.

However, there was little for Hibs to cheer about as they stared the prospect of yet another pointless journey back to the capital.

"Maybe all the hype and speculation around certain players has gone to their heads and they believe they are better than they are," said Mixu Paatelainen.

Not really much to say except the obvious, mixu must go now, not next week or next month but TODAY.

I fully expected him to do the decent thing today. It's been obvious to everyone that he's not going to turn this around.

Even the players have decided he's not worth playing for.

He looks more desperate every day and it can only be the thought of a good pay off that's keeping him there.

COME ON MIXU, enough is enough.

Hang in there Mixu.....doing a grand job.

I really thought he would have quit by the time I got home this evening....

neil1986,

#2&4 I really hoped he would have a bit of dignity for himself and the club and just admitt that he's not up to it but I just feel that he's not gonna jump, in which case we need to push as this cant go on any longer and altho he'll be due a pay off it should save us money in the long term if the new coach can get us into the top 6 and push on next season

neil1986,

#6 Thats an easy thing to say when its not your club slowly slipping down the table and putting in the kind of awful performances not seen since mr blobby. I suspect you would be saying differently if your team was in a similar situation.

I realise that football has got a bit crazy with the limited time offered to managers but he's had over 13 months and there have been no encouraging signs whatsoever. The other sad truth in football is that sacking the manager id often effective in providing results, at least in the short term.

Well done Mixedup Pantyliner
The Hearts fans adore you.
Totally thumped and out classed, and out fought by the bottom of the league absolutely wonderful. Good old Rat Boy Riordon the saviour had another stinker.
But he is on £200.00 a week double the wage of the rest of the muppets.
Oh and its not Mixedups fault "some of the players have let certain headlines go to their heads and think they are better than what they are"
I can see a big pay off coming for Mixedup more money out of the biscuit tin, And who will replace him. After all he is a legend he scored a hat trick against the JT's once. What a great way to pick your manager.
Good old quiet lucky and very rich Rod Petrie.
You make Vlad look good.
Just keep your head down Rod Petrie keep quiet and keep raking it all in. You will have the best pension in football and all the Hearts fans love you for it lol.
Hello Hello its 108 years in a row.

Honest Opinion 2,

Froggyland 22/02/2009 07:55:26
Again and again we hear the calls for MP to bog off and make way for someone who knows what he is doing. This is absolutely justifiable and Petrie should be having a wee secret confab wi' Hamilton;s Billy Reid as I've proposed umpteen times. The more successful Hammy Accies are, the dearer the deal Mr Petrie - you'll understand that argument. Not to mention the huge fall in season ticket demand which willcertainly occur if HIbees Board don't take the proper steps to maintain the Hibs ethos.

mixu must stay and be giving time.he was a great player for us can do the same as manerger.its the board that has to give him more money.

Knew this was going to happen wks ago.80% of this team is just not good enough, the team will need stripped to the bone for next year, thats if we survive...To all fellow hibees out there i suggest you prepare for the worse ,i,m convinced that we will finish in the bottom half and that means we will be prime canditates for the drop.only 3 wins separates cally from us.in the next few weeks we have falkirk, hamilton, hearts, and if truth be told does anyone think we can win any of those games.Mixu must go but i fear its to late to change managers, and anyway we,d still have the same 80% dross players,PREPARE YOURSELVES.
12

maijabs,

ormiston 22/02/2009 08:38:14
Skill-wise the team has already been stripped to the bone. Hibs are a market stall for any body with a few bob to put in the coffers. Neither Mixu nor anybody else can make a silk purse out a sow's ear.

I can only assume you are a jambo on the wind-up.

While the team is nowhere as good on paper as 3 years ago this doesn't give the full picture - a quick look accross the city shows what can be done with ordinary players ( and no striker! ) under the management of someone who knows about the little things like tactics, formations, use of substitutes, etc.

At least he never said "we wuz robbed" again........

Agree. In reply to the previous two posters - don't agree. The squad actually has a very good nucleus. There are some good players in there and a good team can be built round them. Sadly the buffoon has been shown up very badly and is clearly not up to the task.

Yesterday he yearned a lack of workrate. Whilst I am livid that any player would pull on a Hibs jersey and not give 100%, it has become obvious now that elements of the current squad are not interested in playing for Mixu. Sadly, it has been obvious that certain players have felt this way for some time.

If the board cannot see this now, then fan pressure must be applied. This season now holds nothing for us - sack the Idiot, take your time in a new appointment (NOT a former player) and bleed some youths into the team.

MIXU MUST GO

GGTTH

Mixu states that players think they are better than they are.
That statement must surely apply to him.
Out of his depth and floundering badly

NYC Hibee,

New York City 22/02/2009 09:47:00
I agree that it is time for Mixu to call it a day.
But I still believe we have as good a squad as anyone outside the OF. Cetainly good enough to be challenging for Europe. Also, to be fair to the Board, they have given more backing to the team than most other SPL clubs this season. Come the summer, almost all clubs will see their season tickets fall by at least a third. Interesting times ahead!

Ok I am not gonna glot or take the p*** out of you lot! but you really need to get a new manager or something.

I honestly can say that I am starting to feel sorry for hibs very, very, very poor just now. Not one hibs fans has the right to slag of 3rd place hearts just now.

Who would have thought it Hibs fighting the relegation battle. tut tut tut

I had no confidence that Hibs would take any points here. Hats off to IC as they have appeared to play well and for the team.
Hibs have too may average players who have no desire for the club.
Mixu has no managerial awareness. Being an ex-Hibby doesn't make you a manager. Look at how successful Suzee was as a manager although he was one of the best players I've seen in my lifetime. Even when Hibs had a fantastic team to watch a couple of years ago they were still inconsistent. Reminiscent of the great Hibs team of the early 70s. Would beat Rangers one week and lose out to lesser teams the next.

You are taking the pi-h right?
SPL is a desperate embarrassing league now.
Hibs need a new manager and I worry about the future of the SPL as even the OF are now complete gash. I think this league will get worse unless teams start bringing home grown talent through in a big way, even if this means the quality get's worse over the next 3-5 years.
I have watched EPL now for a while as most of it is a joy. Just wish that somehow there was a combined set of British leagues even if it means starting in the British conference league for most of the SPL.
21

radge dug,

22/02/2009 12:52:58
Agree. Mixu should stay. At least at this rate Hibs might win the SPL2 in a year's time.

Riordain and Johnannson will revel in scoring against the likes of Clyde next year. Though maybe half the Hibs team are wishing they had jumped ship for the bright lights of Doncaster and Colchester in January.

Aberdeen are the 3rd best supported team now but with short on 15k. People are paying for quality and there isn't any.

#28 read my post in #23. Yes Hibs are garbage, garbage, garbage. They do not have strong, visionary, motivational management. Once they do they will be an above average SPL team which is still garbage.
Your team drew at home against St MIRREN yesterday and got knocked out of the cup at home to Falkirk. Given the loads on money you have wasted and false promises (Hibs did not experience either) are you happy? I am pis-sed of and if I were you given the differing circumstances I would be to.
25

Pistol Pete,

22/02/2009 15:19:09
Also a big team attracts only about 13,000 fans when they are contesting 3rd place? Wake up!!!

33 Talk o' the Toun, If you are content with Hearts present state then you are easily pleased. You were very fortunate to uncover a diamond for a manager, just like we did with Mowbray. He is doing a splendid job of making chicken c**p look like chicken salad. You are scraping by with results but this will last only as long as teams like Hibs are horribly under acheiving. The relatively easy remedy of buying a half decent striker is something the mad one refuses to do as proved in the last window. Content with your lot? Lordy....
27

Hobo Harry,

22/02/2009 16:45:36
On the subject of being amused, thats about as foolish a post as I have seen you write. I amuse you by being interested in Hearts while you are on a Hibs thread. Errr....Like most Hibees, I have written off this season so the 10 points are really not a problem. We have no chance of catching Hearts or DU but we can prepare for next season by getting a new manager now. I will take up your request though and not debate the quality (ahem) of Hearts players, it would hardly be a long discussion would it?
28

Hobo Harry,

22/02/2009 17:13:09
37 Talk o' the Toun, Errr, wrong again. I responded to your post at #33 whilst you were bringing Hibs into it at post #28. Also, you have pretty much the same team as last year and yet you are doing much better. Emmm, let's see, whats changed at Hearts then? Oh yes you got a new manager didn't you? Still, it's getting late in the day back in old Blighty so you might want to go outside and yell at the moon that Hearts are a big club.....
29

Hobo Harry,

22/02/2009 17:49:18
Authority on both teams? Not sure about that, but I can give an opinion free of Hibs bias, you cannot see past Hearts on this or any other day. You say you are correct and I am wrong though you gave no alternative reason for the improvements in Hearts performance. Losing the argument...? What is it that Idee Fixe used to say? Mwhaaaahahahaaha
30

neil1986,

22/02/2009 18:28:49
#39 TotT. Im not wanting to get into anything but just genuinely curious as to what you would attribute hearts improvement this season to if not lazlo? From the outside i cant see what else has changed since last season (squad seems pretty similar).

One of the reasons I ask is you say on the same post that: "If hibs replaced Mixu then the team would improve .... improve to the point that Hibs would finish 3rd with the same players i doubt it very much".

I would argue the opposite as we're only 10 points behind you, it seems a significant amount but surely a good manager is worth 10 points to a team over a season? Again, not suggesting hibs would be walking away with 3rd this season without mixu but i think a decent manager would have been able to win/draw a sufficient number of games for us to be in the mix for a spot in europe, especially if you take into account the fact a victory over a team near you is a 6 pointer.
31

Hobo Harry,

22/02/2009 18:41:37
43 neil1986, Don't get all sensible with TOTT, you will only confuse him. He talks this nonsense all the time which is a good reason why people like myself VictorIan et al rarely come on here any more. This forum would depress Leonard Cohen these days...
32

Hobo Harry,

22/02/2009 18:49:11
43 neil1986, To adress your point about the fact that we are only 10 points behind. I recall last season how often that the dafter elements of the Hearts support claimed that despite the fact they were having a poor season they were only x number of points behind us. Apparently that argument doesn't work in reverse. We are only 3 wins and a draw behind them in spite of the fact that we have been rank rotten this season. But according to TOTT they have much better players than us. Tell me Neil, apart form Bruno, who would you take from Hearts? Kingstons attitude is rotten, Driver? Championship at best in spite of Csabas ramblings...I'm struggling to think of others.
33

Hobo Harry,

22/02/2009 19:11:57
Balogh, no we have a good goalie, I hope we keep him
Neilson, good honest pro thanks but no
Wallace, no better than what we have
Johnsson, yes forgot about him
Kingston, no chance attitude is rotten
Obua, is it three good games up to this point? we don't need a player who can't play in a Scottish winter
Stewart, we emptied him already, why would we take him back?
Driver, I'm fine with what we have in attacking options
34

Hobo Harry,

22/02/2009 19:49:10
This is my final post of the day, this is like drawing teeth and I have some work to do. I'll take Stevenson/Hanlon/McCormack at full back than your two. You talk about Kingston and Stewart as though ability was the only thing that mattered. Attitude is equally important and I would absolutely not want them at Easter Road. Different or not, we have no need of another attacker, we need to make better use of what we have currently. Obua, might turn out to be a fine player, who knows, but MOM twice does turn him into a long term star.
35

Dood,

22/02/2009 20:13:49
Children. A slightly more objective view.....

Obua. Mince. No way - one of the worst Yam's I've seen.

Neilson - HUGE work ethic but totally yad. That said, gets in before Van Zanten. Big Daz McCormack's a Centre Half so not comparable.

Wallace. Aye. He could shoot Mixu. Sign Him. Now.

Mikey Stewart. Total Balloon. Great passer of the ba. I'd take him back without question.

Kingston - Noooooooooooooooooooo thanks!!!

Driver. Decent player - no final ball. HUGELY over-rated. Still take him though.
36

Cramondo,

Edinburgh 22/02/2009 20:30:16
#48 you have someone better than Wallace? Obviously, you haven't seen much of Wallace this season then.

# 52 You think Obua is mince? Did you notice who set up our first goal at Easter Road last month? That's the same man who scored two against Inverness, and laid on both our goals against the Dons last week, not to mention man of the match yesterday.

Your defence will have its work cut out trying to chase this mince around next month. And he'll beat you in any midfield aerial battles (with the Hoofball you lot play there will be plenty). He was runner-up for South African POTY; took him a while to get used to the Scottish game, but he's got the measure of it now and opposing teams haven't got the measure of him yet. Limped off yesterday, though.

Poor Hibs, deluded as ever.

Eh, yes. I do think Obua is mince. As do many of my Yam mates. In the last derby (against a sham of a Hibs side) he was gash. One pass. Well done. Two words - Brian Kerr.

Poor Yams, deluded as ever.
38

Pistol Pete,

22/02/2009 20:48:58
if Hibs were 60 odd million in debt, zero goal difference and being overun by Falkirk/ St Mirren I would be happy to be in the thought that Vlad has us well placen to "dominate the SPL and challenge within the CPL". Hope you get better than 8th last year, but you will still be lucky to finish in the top 6.
I do feel sorry for you given all the money, promises and unease.
Maybe Hibs should buy Hearts for 1p. Vlad would reduce his debt.
Most of my mates are Jambo's and see this, but obviously not the Hibs part; so Jambo posters, I admire your (ignorance) courage, part of the reason that your crowds are dwindling......and will continue to.
39

Pistol Pete,

Bit like Tranent Juniors really - same colours as well.
40

Hobo Harry,

22/02/2009 20:55:36
53 Cramondo, Limped off yesterday you say? Will he be heading back to Africa for treatment as Kingston did since Hearts clearly can't provide it. Ghana is a marvellous country, but their medical facilities better than Hearts can arrange here? Mwhahahaha
Or maybe just trying to save a couple of bob.....
41

Cramondo,

Edinburgh 22/02/2009 21:17:16
#54 I can only assume that your "Yam mates" don't go to many games. He's fast, can go past his man, gets good crosses in and is strong in the air. (on the debit side, he can appear clumsy and has committed some howlers). I've not seen Kerr enough to judge your comparison, but I think that, if we can keep him, Obua will cause you further pain. You'll see.

#55 Yes, every Hearts fan I know firmly believed that we would have won the Champions League by now, and we're all devastated that that hasn't happened.
