THE Anti-Nazi League yesterday carried out a small and peaceful protest close to a festival organised by the far-right British National Party.
Lancashire police had imposed a three-mile exclusion zone to stop protesters disrupting the event close to the village of Sawley, near Clitheroe. A police spokesman said the protesters were allowed to demonstrate for a short time before being moved on.
BNP leader Nick Griffin said about 800 supporters were due at the festival, which had to be moved from Diggle near Oldham following protests from residents.
