Offering a hedonistic dose of indie, punk and dance, Live at Loch Lomond may be set in tranquil surroundings, but it's definitely not peaceful

WHAT?

In only its second year, it boasts an impressive line-up including the Sex Pistols, Happy Mondays, Groove Armada and Pete Doherty, plus DJs from Subculture's Harri and Dominic to Carl Cox. Last year it was the most attended of Scotland's four new festivals. One to watch.

Festival frenzy: if you are Bez, or at the very least dance like him

Festival flop: if the thought of a crowd of codgers headbanging to 'God Save The Queen' brings you out in a cold sweat

hi there i would just like to record the fact that if you are going to the loch lomond festival be prepared to be treated like a criminal, i went yesterday and will not be returning today as i do object to being told to line up in groups of ten (straight line now face forward) to be photoed and searched by a police dog! The ticket warns of metal detectors and this i can agree with as it is in the public's safety to stop knifes being carried, but the police seemed to think there was more threat of people being stabbed with a joint. ( never saw a metal detector) On entering the site we found there to be a large number of glass bottles lying around so again public safety is second to showing a large pressence with sniffer dogs, where is the sence in this are we to be searched before entering a park in the future, what happened to needing a reason, or is going to a gig a dissident act these days to attract such a large police presence. Well three of us gave up and left after finding no where to shelter or even sit down as the ground was all cut up from tractor tracks and was turning to mud quickly. It would seem if you are not into getting bladdered on Thunderbird and popping e's then stay away from their festivals now cos that is what you are meeting apparently it alright to get so drunk people are helping you to the gate as long as you don't want a j! And whatever you do dont take your kids cos these are not for the family any more. over run by drunk aggressive neds winding themselves up for more agro.

I agree, with the previous comment. And to add disappointment, my main reason for attending was to see the first band on the BOX stage(the streetlight conspiracy) and although our group arrived early, 1 hour before the gates, we were left waiting until 2pm before anyone was allowed to enter (sunburn with no toilet facilities). We missed the first 2 hours and bands were playing to an empty venue. Looks like it was the organisers who were off their heads (were the sniffer dogs there to secure their own supplies!). I object wholeheartedly to the poor balance of metal detectors v's sniffer dogs (I mannaged to take in a 35mm SLR in my bag, it's not plastic!). Because if saftey was paramount then aggressive drunken neds pose far more of a threat than pot smoking hippies. On the plus side, the increased profit with on site alcohol sales (some people just need to get some form of high) must surely mean a better organised festival next year, Don't kid yourself. Stay away people, I for one want a refund, funny how i was not allowed to keep my ticket stub!
