David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunite this weekend for the big screen debut of everyone's favourite supernatural cult drama, the X Files. X Files: I Want To Believe sees Mulder and Scully in domestic bliss, until things start going bump in the night and Billy Connolly turns up as a priest with heightened senses for the supernatural. The critics have panned it, but fans will find it hard to resist investigating the truth.

Events

If you are anywhere in the postal district of EH1-20 this weekend, it will be hard to ignore the fact that the Edinburgh Fringe Festival officially kicks off this Sunday. If you're smart, however, you'll grab tickets for tonight and tomorrow, when a lot of the shows are available as 2-for-1s. The top names in town are Joan Rivers, Britt Ekland, Michael Barrymore, Bill Bailey, Jason Byrne, Roy Walker, as well as a pop line-up as part of the Edge Festival which includes Scouting for Girls, the Raconteurs, N*E*R*D and Kate Nash.

Theatre has a strong focus on terrorism and troubled times, with shows such as Deep Cut and Charlie Victor Romeo looking at real life tragic events, but there are also lighter affairs, with Carl Hiassen teaming up with Loudon Wainwright for the first stage adaptation of Hiassen's novel Lucky You, and Michael Barrymore and Jill Halfpenny starring in Being Spike, about the life of the one and only Mr Milligan.

With an art festival boasting Turner Prize winner Mark Wallinger, Tracey Emin, Impressionism and Vanity Fair photography, there is also plenty to do which doesn't involve sitting in a hot, sweaty portacabin for 60 minutes.

Music

In the picturesque surroundings of Balloch Country Park the grizzliest men in rock will take to the stage this weekend, as Live at Loch Lomond rocks the loch tomorrow and Sunday. Acts set to appear include the Sex Pistols, Happy Mondays, Pete Doherty, Groove Armada and Roisin Murphy.
