RED TOP REVIEW

Not so peachy for Geldof More strife for the Geldof family as the Sun follows last week's
Ronnie Wood revelations with the slightly less stellar Peaches Geldof. The newspaper claims the daughter of Sir Bob had to be given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation by a friend after she passed out and stopped breathing for several minutes. The drama unfolded at the 19-year-old's London flat on Sunday night. Last night, however, she looked none the worse for her ordeal as she appeared on the red carpet at the European premiere of the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight, in London's Leicester Square.

Best thing since unsliced bread
It's more down to brass tacks in the Daily Record. Ways to beat the credit crunch are few and far between and most of them need the economic brain of Evan Davis, or at least Nick Robinson. According to the Record, however, all you need is to buy sliced bread. Out have gone "posh loaves" with seeds and olives and other fancy ingredients. In is the humble sliced white loaf, sales of which are rising for the first time in years. Now that's something to chew on.

Coming from behind
The Daily Mirror, meanwhile, has the news that grandad Graham Butterfield has the "most valuable buttocks in Britain".
His company has insured his posterior for £1m. The reason? He is an official bed bouncer for Silentnight.

Kate Moss's new flame
Finally, the Daily Mirror also has the happy news that Kate Moss is back with her rock-star lover Jamie Hince. The couple enjoyed a shopping spree and then, as the paper discovered, both lit up cigarettes afterwards. That's nice.

BUSINESS

Vodafone warning
There are signs that the economic slowdown is stretching as far as the telecommunications sector today as mobile phone giant Vodafone warns it is bracing itself for revenues to take a hit this year. Vodafone's shares fell by nearly 16p in early trading after Vodafone boss Arun Sarin, who steps down in July, said its revenues for the year to March 31, 2009 are likely to come in at the bottom of the expected £39.8bn-£40.7bn range. So far revenues have held up relatively well – the firm reported this morning that it added 8.5 million subscribers in the three months to the end of June, helping revenues to climb 19.1% to £9.8bn – but Sarin warned Vodafone faces a "challenging operating environment" ahead. Meanwhile, TomTom, the European manufacturer of satellite navigation devices, announced this morning that net revenue fell dramatically in the second quarter.

SPORT

Barcelona friendlies
Barcelona are in town and they've brought the weather with them. The new football season is just days away and the Catalan superstars - Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry, Alexander Hleb, Daniel Alves et al - face Hibs at Murrayfield on Thursday and Dundee United at Tannadice on Saturday in pre-season friendlies.

Blast from the past for Rangers
Tonight's pre-season action, though, sees Rangers' current crop come up against a clutch of stars from the past at Broadwood. Clyde boss John Brown fields a side including former Ibrox favourites Brian Laudrup, Jorg Albertz and Arthur Numan with a 7.30pm kick off.

As play in Cumbernauld gets under way, Rangers should know for certain who they face in their Champions League second qualifying match. Kaunas, the Lithuanian side backed by Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov's bank, are firm favourites to be visiting Ibrox for the first leg next Wednesday, as they host Andorran minnows Santa Coloma at 5.30pm tonight with a 4-1 advantage.

Killie to sign Salmon
Staying with football, it is reported today that Kilmarnock are poised to sign 21-year-old Derry City striker Conor Salmon. Killie boss Jim Jefferies wants to strengthen his options up front after new arrival Alan Russell suffered a knee injury.

Glimmer of hope for Monty
And finally to golf, where this morning's papers are reporting that Colin Montgomerie's dwindling hopes of playing in the Ryder Cup in September were given a shot in the arm when newly crowned Open champion Padraig Harrington called on Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo to give the Scot one of his two wildcard picks for the showdown against America at Valhalla in Kentucky. With others such as Open runner-up Ian Poulter still uncertain of a place on merit and vying for a wildcard, Monty will still probably still have to up his game between now and final selection on August 31 if he is to figure in Faldo's plans.

TELEVISION

Armchair fan
We don't get enough of Des Lynam on the telly these days, so Des Lynam's Sport Mastermind BBC 2 Scotland, 8pm, is a welcome top-up. With the public excitement over this year's Wimbledon and Euro 2008 reaching heady heights, this pre-Olympic show is perfectly timed.

Back to her roots
Too often the viewer is left wanting more from makeover shows, ie the what happened next bit, but tonight 10 Years Younger, Channel 4, 8pm, goes back to one of its participants to see how the overhaul changed her in the long haul. In 2006, divorcee Pandora Ankers from Leicestershire had a 20-a-day smoking habit, no teeth and a poor complexion. Surely things can only have got better?

Rappers delight
If you thought Patrick Kielty's presenting skills on Love Island made you cringe, then grab a cushion from the sofa for tonight's Tough Gig, STV, 12.40am, in which he eats, sleeps and breathes a London rapper's lifestyle. At the end of a week-long charm offensive, he has to perform a stand-up show that will make his new mates from 'the hood' laugh rather than cry.

FASHION
Bustin' out all over or Dudek, where's my iron? We all shed a tear when the Cuthroat Bitch died in House, so it's good to see Anne Dudek up and about and apparently, er, bursting, with health. I know you can't see it dear, but you could maybe have got someone to iron the bottom of your dress.

Saving Private Practice Yet another example of the credit crunch affecting us all – even celebrities. You can see that Kate Walsh has saved money on hairdressing costs by just tying her hair up in a ratty ponytail. She's also saved cash by scrimping on the fabric of her dress.

Not Sienna
It's a brave choice for a redhead to wear orange – and not a choice that always works. I'd like to say that it's paid off for Christina Hendricks. I'd like to say it, but it wouldn't be true.
