WELCOME to today's tasty news morsels, including SPORT, FASHION, TELEVISION, BUSINESS and the INTERNET.

RED TOP REVIEW

Britain's fattest teen

The Sun has the disturbing image of a girl of 15 who weighs 33 stone. The front page has a picture of the teenager from Aberdare, South Wales with the news that doctors have told her she will die unless she loses 20 stone. Inside the paper, the girl tells how she is addicted to food saying: "Some people choose heroin but I've chosen food and it's killing me."

Peter Purves' pooch puncture

Nostalgia is always a favourite in tabloid land and a story about former Blue Peter presenter Peter Purves being bitten by a dog makes all the red tops today. The Daily Record wins the headline competition with "Down Shep", revealing that Purves was bitten by a mongrel at a dog show in Norwich.

Old man snogs young beauty

Finally, the Daily Record has pictures of 63-year-old Michael Douglas smooching with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 37. Urrrgh!

BA profits down 88%

British Airways this morning plunged the aviation industry into further chaos when it announced an 88% drop in second quarter pre-tax profits.

Blaming the sharp hike in fuel costs, the airline said the industry faces the "worst trading environment ever" after posting pre-tax profits of £37m for the three months to the end of June. This compared with a haul of £298m during the same period last year.

The poor BA results follow an announcement from Ryanair on Monday that its net profits are down 85%. BA is currently in talks with the Spanish airline Iberia about a potential tie-up which would result in the creation of Europe's largest airline.

A right royal romp

The first series picked up Golden Globe nominations and a massive following, so the national grid is sure to feel a bit of a surge this evening as Jonathan Rhys Meyers returns in the second season of The Tudors. His take on Henry VIII might bend, twist and whack repeatedly against the wall of the historical fact of the monarch's reign, but with the likes of Sam Neill in support, and a high gloss finish, this soapy drama somehow manages to mix quality acting and romping farce with success.

Hanging out with the hangers on

New film maker, Bruce Fletcher, takes the obsession with a troubled pop star to the logical extreme in tonight's Saving Britney Spears. Rather than simply follow her rollercoaster life directly, Fletcher follows the followers as he interviews the paparazzi and celebrity media pack who make a fortune out of the singer's exploits, as he ponders where the finger of blame should be pointed.

Tonight's dose of silliness

Billed as a dose of satirical news, comment and all-round silliness, Channel 4's Tonightly has a ring of the 11 O'Clock Show to it. Not that said show did any harm to the careers of Ricky Gervais, Daisy Donovan or Iain Lee, but the question is whether comedian Jason Manford has the style to carry it off.

Twin horrors

It's been a year since Samanda didn't win BB - and what a year it's been. Two sweet girls who dressed in Barbie pink were transformed. Sadly, they were transformed into this. Hopefully this will be the last we see of them - and their stylist - as the new crop take their place on the red carpet

Boleyn them over

I almost didn't recognise Natalie Dormer without her regal gowns. Good to see she's kept Anne's imperious treatment of the lower orders, though.

Support your sisters

I know, I know - I seem obsessed by foundation garments, but shouldn't a pregnant woman have a little more support than that thin halter strap? And while we're looking at this pair, does anyone else think it odd that David Duchovny seems to have tucked his trousers into his shoes?

SPORT

Bougherra to make Ibrox debut against Liverpool

Rangers' new £2.5m signing Madjid Bougherra will make his debut in the friendly against Liverpool at Ibrox on Saturday after completing his transfer from Charlton Athletic.

The Algerian international signed a four-year deal last night, opting for a move to the SPL in apparent preference to joining West Bromwich Albion.

At 6ft 3in and 14st, the French-born Bougherra offers a towering presence at centre-back. He played previously for Sheffield Wednesday and Crewe.

Murray sees off Tursunov

Andy Murray is through to the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters after comfortably beating Dmitry Tursunov in straight sets. The Scot broke the world No. 34 twice in the first set and quickly opened a 3-0 lead with some fantastic shots in the second to win 6-3 6-3.

Tursunov, who has now lost all five of their matches, had little to offer in reply when Murray upped his game. Murray will now face Spain's Carlos Moya who beat Russia's Igor Andreev.
