Turner top seed for Tain event
Her aggregate of four-over-par 150 gave the 22-year-old Robert Gordon University student from Penicuik two shots to spare over the second best qualifier, Laura Murray (Alford) (79-73), with teenager Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) (78-77) just ahead of former champion Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar) (77-79) and teenage duo Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) (79-77) and Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) (80-76).
Turner’s outward half cost her 41 shots – six over par, thanks to visits to five bunkers, which cost her a double-bogey 6 and four bogeys. “I was hitting it well enough but I just couldn’t stay out of the bunkers,” said Turner, who made amends by coming home in 34.
Murray continued her good form with a second-round 73 to qualify.
There was a play-off for the last of the 32 places with 16-year-old Fiona Liddell beating Anne Ryan (Tain) at the second extra hole.
