Speedway: Monarchs hope to weather the storm
Monarchs bosses are praying for a let-up in the current wintry spell to allow the squad to take to the track and shake off their close season cobwebs. Only Dutch star Theo Pijper has tasted action so far when he competed in the recent Ben Fund Bonanza event at Berwick. And while teammate Craig Cook pulled out of that meeting, he has Elite League engagements scheduled this week. Monarchs are keen to put a few laps in to acquaint themselves with the “new” first and second bends folllowing the shifting of the starting gate to the back straight.
Pijper said: “It’s going to take a bit of time to get used to.”
