Malky Mackay to take reins at Cardiff
The Hornets rejected an official approach for Mackay from Championship rivals Cardiff on Wednesday.
But Mackay, 39, requested to speak to Cardiff and Watford's hierarchy were forced to agree, paving the way for him to agree a deal to take over in the Welsh capital.

Hide AdCardiff, who sacked Dave Jones after suffering play-off disappointment for the second successive season, have yet to confirm Mackay's appointment. But a statement from new Watford owner Laurence Bassini on Watford's official website read: "Cardiff City has now confirmed Malky Mackay as its new manager - and he leaves with the best wishes of the Hornets' leadership team.
"I can't hide the fact I'm disappointed to see Malky leave. I do, however, wish him the very best of luck and every success for the future as he begins work at his new club."
