The Hoops are in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final with Aberdeen this afternoon giving Steven Gerrard’s side the chance to extend their command at the top of the table.
James Tavernier gave them the lead from the penalty spot and there was yet another clean sheet for the Glasgow side who ultimately stretched their advantage to nine points – but Kilmarnock restricted the visitors to a single goal and it was a nervy ending to the afternoon with the home side pressing for an equaliser that didn’t come.
Here’s how the Rangers players rated.
Scale - 10: One of the best performances you've seen. 9: Outstanding. 8: Very good. 7: Good. 6: Average. 5: Poor, 4: Very poor. 3: A terrible day at the office. 2: Abysmal. 1: One of the worst performances you've seen.
1. Allan McGregor - 7
Would take a 6 every week if it meant he was as untroubled as he has been in recent weeks. And he was until the 83rd minute - low to deny a Brophy free-kick and keep ANOTHER clean sheet. Photo: Craig Williamson - SNS Group
2. Filip Helander - 6
Fine performance marshalling Kabamba and keeping him quiet but so little was offered by Killie there wasn't too much for the Swede to do. Photo: Rob Casey - SNS Group
3. Borna Barisic - 8
Rangers' attacking threat throughout the first half, whipping in deliveries as is his want. Freedom to roam as never troubled in defence Photo: Rob Casey - SNS Group
4. Connor Goldson - 8
Rarely troubled at the back and mopped up everything otherwise. A threat going forward and looks confident playing in form of his life. Photo: Rob Casey - SNS Group
