While teams may be looking to bring players in or move players out depending on their situation, January also signals a time when there can be a look to the future and to those players whose deals expire at the end of the campaign.
Clubs are free to open discussions with individuals who are into the final six months of their contract. Looking around the Scottish Premiership there are a host of key players who will likely attract plenty of attention. Due to the financial climate of Scottish football their current side may not be in a position to offer a new deal yet, while other clubs could see an opportunity to get some talented stars in on a free.
