It was tight, it was nervy, it was long as Israel and Scotland went the full two hours to decide who would move to within one game of the European Championships next year.
Eventually it was decided by Kenny McLean’s decisive spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out that sent Scotland to Serbia for the final next month and kept the Euro dream alive.
Here’s how Steve Clarke’s players rated on the night.
Player ratings scale - 10: One of best performances you've seen. 9: Outstanding. 8: Very good. 7: Good. 6: Average. 5: Poor, 4: Very poor. 3: Terrible day at office. 2: Abysmal. 1: One of worst performances you've seen.
1. David Marshall - 8
Little to do and looked to be more influential with long-flighted passes to the front two than he would be making stops - until the shoot-out and the vital save against Zahavi gave Scotland a platform to win. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group
2. Andy Robertson - 8
Captain class. A cut above everyone on the pitch - in set-piece delivery, composure in tight spots, positioning and fitness. Photo: Craig Williamson - SNS Group
3. Stephen O'Donnell - 6
No complaints. Given a lot to do with most of Israel's attacks focussed on his flank in the second half. Got forward when he could to support and rebound could have won a very soft penalty for handball. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group / SFA
4. Liam Cooper - 6
Looked unsure of his positioning and that of his defenders in both halves of the game. Played it safe by clearing the danger but often unchallenged. Hit the post late on but it didn't matter with the win minutes later. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group / SFA
