Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong both march on
Baltacha made it through to the last 64 for the fifth time in her career as she beat in-form qualifier Mona Barthel 6-2 6-4 on Court 12. The venue was notable for it was on Court 12 last year that Scots player Baltacha served for a first-round win against Petra Martic only to go down in three sets. When she trailed 19-year-old Barthel 15-40 serving at 5-4 in the second, a repeat seemed possible, but Baltacha used her experience to close out victory in an hour and 18 minutes. She said: "I kind of felt I was playing two people out there.
"One, I was playing Barthel, and one I was playing my demons from last year here. It's unbelievable to have won that, especially on the same court. When I was serving for the match, I just didn't let myself go there, what happened last year. I didn't even think about it. I just knew that I'm much better than what I was last year."

Hide AdThere was a similar theme to Keothavong's victory over compatriot Naomi Broady on the same court earlier in the afternoon. Keothavong surrendered a 4-0 final-set lead against Anastasia Rodionova on Court 12 last year, but there was no repeat in the same surroundings this time around as she won 6-2 6-4.
Laura Robson and Heather Watson are in action today.
