Athletics: Smith pools off hat-trick in Glasgow
Warrender member Fiona Donnelly, at just 15, also had a terrific meet. Having already won the 800m freestyle on Friday, she added two more in the 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke and was silver medallist in the 200m freestyle.
In the backstroke, the teenager smashed the Scottish record and held off favourite Hannah Miley, who collected an impressive nine gold medals over the three days. Donnelly also came close to a Scottish record in the butterfly She touched first in 27.92 - just 0.18 secs outside the record. In another tussle with Miley, Donnelly took the silver in the 200m freestyle.

Hide AdFor Smith, it was also a job well done. With the 100m and 200m titles already in the bag, 22-year-old Smith added the longest distance with a time of 4:15.31. In the 200m freestyle, Commonwealth Games Champion Robbie Renwick took gold.
The final-day excitement rounded off a terrific medal haul after Edinburgh University's Kathryn Johnstone, with the 100m breaststroke, Smith with his double and Donnelly had all struck gold on Friday.
