But on top of that he had already damaged his shoulder in an earlier competition and a scan has revealed two tissue tears which will require an operation.

Hide AdIn the end four Scots were actually chosen for Daegu, marathon runners Andrew Lemoncello (Fife) and East Kilbride's Susan Partridge being added to Glasgow's Lee McConnell (400m & 4x400m) and Pitreavie's Eilidh Child (400m hurdles & 4x400m). But Dundee's Eilish McColgan, who broke her own Scottish steeplechase record in the trials, was ruled out as she had actually broken a bone in her foot in the race.
