Two-horse race developing in Lib Dems fight
Steve Webb, the left-wing chairman of the Lib Dems' manifesto team, said the contest would force him to spend too much time away from his family.
The MP for Northavon threw his weight behind Mr Clegg, the Lib Dems' home affairs spokesman who is emerging as the favourite to succeed Sir Menzies Campbell after Paddy Ashdown also endorsed him.

Hide AdMr Webb said: "I have considered standing, but have made the positive choice to step aside and to give my support to Nick Clegg."
Mr Clegg will launch the campaign today in his Sheffield constituency.
Nominations for the leadership close on 31 October.
