Hide AdTo clear the line, engineers constructed an access road to the derailment site and created an area where a 1,000-tonne crane could be placed to remove the vehicles.
The line was cleared on Friday, and repair work then started on the damaged tracks.
Throughout the duration of the work, buses replaced trains between Kilmarnock and Dumfries on ScotRail’s Glasgow Central to Carlisle services.
The ScotRail Alliance said that normal service on the line would resume today.
A spokeswoman said: “We’d like to thank customers for their patience, and also our staff for their hard work in resolving this situation as soon as possible.”
