Police chiefs promise a safer society
The Association of Scottish Police Superintendents (Asps) has said it is confident change is necessary and the new force will be a success.

“We want our local communities to be safer, stronger and great places to work in and visit. We will make this happen.
Meanwhile, a provisional budget of £1.06 billion was agreed at the last meeting of the Scottish Police Authority yesterday, along with a required spending reduction of £63.9 million.
Chief Constable Steve House said: “This is the most historic structural change in policing in Scotland in generations.
“Our purpose is to improve the safety and wellbeing of people, places and communities in Scotland.”
