Work matters
Your editorial (17 April) claims that in Glasgow “in some homes, three generations of the same family have not known gainful work”.
I’d be interested to know whence you obtained this information. Research carried out within the past 18 months by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation was unable to find any such families in Glasgow despite strenuous efforts.
Furthermore, the researchers found that even families with two generations of worklessness were very rare, with surveys suggesting that there are less than 1 per cent of households where nobody was employed.
