Word of warning
YOUR article (22 August) regarding the dropping of obsolete words, such as charabanc, brought to mind a road sign which was at the junction of the A84 and the road along the south side of Loch Earn until the mid-1980s and which read: “Unsuitable for charabancs”.
It has now been replaced with a modern “Unsuitable for coaches”, which I thought was a pity. We seem to be losing a lot of these small idiosyncrasies.
