Letter: RAF confusion
I sympathise with Squadron-Leader (retired) Box when he complains about the use of "RAF" to denote the Rote Armee Fraktion or Red Army Faction, the successors to Baader-Meinhof (Letters, 19 May). Unfortunately, this is the abbreviation favoured by the German media.
When I lived in a village on the Lower Rhine in the late 1970s, it was disconcerting to read in the local Westdeutsche Zeitung that "an RAF man" had just been arrested in Cologne!
