Movement on Waverley escalators
Six escalators were installed as part of a £7 million project to improve access from Princes Street to Waverley Station, but in the two weeks since they were opened they have been plagued with problems.
One broke down within 24 hours of first being used. And yesterday two were shut off as a precaution because the glass roof was letting rain through, raising fears of an electrical fault.

Hide AdA spokesman for Network Rail said a problem had been identified with the sealant: “They were replacing that but didn’t manage to complete it before the rain. Depending on the weather, we expect the escalators to be working again over the weekend.”
