The story emerged after a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court before Sheriff Thomas Welsh QC.
Horne, also of Gullane, pleaded guilty to a singe charge of cycling dangerously on June 14 2014.
The court heard how Horne rode through a traffic light on one wheel before making a right turn without signalling.
Horne also failed to look where he was going and this caused him to strike the couple on the tandem.
Sheriff Welsh deferred sentence on Horne. He will be sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on April 8 2015.
