More Scots seek university place
Data from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (Ucas) show 40,689 applicants from Scotland applied for a place at a UK university before the 15 January deadline, a 0.7 per cent increase on last year. The number of English applicants rose by 2.1 per cent. Across the UK, there was a 4 per cent increase in applications from the EU and a 7 per cent rise from non-EU students.
While applications can continue to be submitted until 30 June, those received after the January deadline are classed as late. However, universities continue to make offers until all available places are gone.
