Dixons Carphone’s sales charge after £3.7bn tie-up
Like-for-like sales at the electricals business were up 4 per cent in the quarter to 2 August after the World Cup boosted television sales and the group reported some signs of recovery in consumer confidence.
Since then, trading has received a further boost from demand on Black Friday, which proved to be the biggest day in Currys/PC World history.

Hide AdWeb traffic was up five-fold from last year and stores saw significantly increased footfall with the most popular products including large-screen Samsung TVs, DeLonghi coffee machines and Hotpoint washing machines.
Carphone Warehouse sales were down by 6 per cent in the first quarter period due to comparisons with an exceptional period of trading a year earlier.
However, there is likely to have been some benefit from the demise of rival Phones 4u, which collapsed in September with the closure of 362 stores. Dixons Carphone took on the 800 staff who worked at 160 Phones 4u concession sites within Currys/PC World stores.
