Building services contractor McGill set to boost headcount after duo of contract wins
It comes after the company announced its appointment to Govanhill Housing Association’s £20m major repairs framework last month.
The firm said that in response to new legislation introduced after the Grenfell disaster, all properties in Scotland must meet higher standards in regards to smoke, fire and carbon monoxide alarms – with a March 2021 deadline.

Hide AdMcGill added that its specialist fire and security team has grown significantly over the past 12 months as the company has won several contracts to ensure compliance for its customers.
It comes as building work remains suspended on all but essential Scottish sites. MD Douglas Thomson said: “Whilst the past couple of months have been very difficult for our business and, of course, the entire industry, it is fantastic to have been awarded these contracts and continue the growth of McGill.”
McGill’s fire and security team are currently delivering similar contracts across Scotland for several different clients including Fife Council, Langstane and Castlehill Housing Associations, both in and around Aberdeen.
The firm’s operations director Chris Ferriday said: “We will be looking to employ a number of individuals as a result of these contract appointments and also offer more apprenticeships.”
It added that it does not expect lockdown measures in Scotland to be relaxed in coming weeks.
