Midlothian draw opener

MIDLOTHIAN faced Dumfries-shire today bidding to bounce back from a "disappointing" start to their campaign in the Scottish Women's County Finals at Bothwell Castle.

Tracy Laughland's side were 3-0 up after the foursomes against Renfrewshire but slipped up badly in the singles and had to settle for a 4-4 draw.

"It was disappointing," admitted the team captain. "The team had worked hard in the morning to build up a lead only to give it away. But it's still a point and it's all still to play for. We just need to go out over the next two days and win our remaining matches by the biggest margins possible."

Baberton's Karen Marshall provided the sole success in the singles, with the half point coming from Wendy Nicholson of Broomieknowe. She had a par putt at the last to win the tie and give Midlothian overall victory but just missed.

In the other match on the opening day, Angus beat Dumfriesshire 6-2.
