Golf: Hogg over Noon in Turnhouse
Experienced Dundas Park player Alan Hogg claimed the notable scalp, beating his Craigielaw opponent 2 and 1 as the second batch of opening-round matches were played last night.
After swapping birdies at the fourth, the match remained evenly balanced until Hogg, formerly of Ratho Park, produced a decisive birdie at the 16th and then won the 17th with a par.

Hide AdHogg's reward is a second round match tonight against Tom Caldwell, who got the better of Paul Heggie in an all-Silverknowes encounter. In a closely-fought match, Heggie birdied the second, but Caldwell gained the lead with an eagle at the fourth and a birdie-2 at the fifth.
Swapping birdies at the sixth and ninth, the match remained evenly balanced until Caldwell birdied the 15th to go two up and he went on to win 2 and 1.
Keith Reilly, of Silverknowes, is also through to the last eight after a 2 and 1 win over Lee McCathie. He now meets Minto's Glen Oxton, beat Westerwood's Paul Gault 3 and 1.
