Jack Wilshere Rangers 'contract offer' latest - as Ibrox icon calls for move to happen

Contrary to reports in some English media outlets, The Scotsman understands the Ibrox club have not yet made any formal offer to the former Arsenal star who is out of contract after leaving West Ham United on transfer deadline day. Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is a firm admirer of his ex-England team-mate, however, and a move for the 28-year-old can’t be ruled out. McCoist had first-hand experience of Wilshere’s talent back in 2009 when the then teenage prodigy lit up the Emirates Cup pre-season tournament in London with a brilliant two-goal display in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Rangers. Assistant-manager to Walter Smith on that occasion, Rangers legend McCoist would now love to see his old club take the plunge and add Wilshere to their squad. “If you’ve got an opportunity to sign real quality like that, then you can’t let that go by,” said the talkSPORT pundit. "For the lad himself, and seemingly he's been fit for six or seven months now which is great, he's just got to get back playing. "I know he's been linked with America and I absolutely get that. You know, lifestyle, play somewhere hot whether it's Tampa or Miami. I get that. "But I just feel, surely, that he's still got far too much to offer. Would I like to see him at Ibrox? I would. I think he's a brilliant football player. "I just want to see him back playing somewhere at a good level, with a smile on his face, staying injury-free and enjoying the rest of his career."
