Cycling: Martin poised to be in mix at Caird Park

CAPITAL cyclist Dave Martin will be among the leading contenders when the Scottish 15 kilometre scratch championship is decided at Caird Park in Dundee on Sunday.

The event was rained off from its original slot on the racing calendar in May. Since then, Martin has produced a string of solid performances on DHL National Track duty.

That places him among the favourites for the men's title, with Derek Smith (City of Edinburgh) also likely to challenge for the honours, while Scott MacRae (Leslie Bike Shop) is another in-form rider set to battle it out for the silverware. Among the riders lining up in the women's event are Alison Chisholm (Edinburgh RC) and Emma Baird (City of Edinburgh).

Meanwhile, Kenny Ayre (City of Edinburgh) will bid to build on his impressive effort at last weekend's Dudley Grand Prix when he contests the sprint events, with his former team-mate, Scotland international Kevin Stewart, among his rivals.

And a clutch of youngsters will also make the trip from the Capital, with Edinburgh RC/Martin Currie RT riders Sean Noon and Lulu Bartlett set to challenge for top three places.
