WIMBLEDON champion Andy Murray has released a short video thanking fans for helping him achieve a career-defining ambition after overcoming Novak Djokovic in yesterday’s men’s singles final.

The brief clip, available on the Scot’s Instagram account, was published earlier this afternoon and shows Murray in relaxed mood after Sunday’s historic achievement.

“Thanks a lot everyone for your support,” said Murray. “over not just these last few weeks, but all the years.

He added: “It’s much appreciated and helped me get through yesterday especially, so thank you again.”

The clip, which has already been viewed by several thousand, was met by a flood of messages congratulating Britain’s first Wimbledon champion in 77 years.

One Instagram user, summing up the feelings of a nation, said: “Congratulations Andy! It’s been a while coming, and we knew you could do it! I hope now you can have some time to relax.”
