University shows it means business with competition

ACADEMICS from more universities than ever before have submitted applications to take part in a business competition run by Heriot-Watt University.

The Converge Challenge is the only competition of its kind in Scotland, with a cash prize of 25,000 up for grabs, as well as 18,000 worth of legal and financial advice, business mentorship, coaching and branding and marketing services.

Dr Olga Kozlova, Heriot-Watt's enterprise creation manager from the Converge Challenge team, said: "I am delighted by both the increase in participation from academics outwith Heriot-Watt and by the number of universities from which academics have submitted entries.

"It is greatly encouraging to see such a high level of enthusiasm from individuals from right across Scotland, who not only have an idea for a potential business but who are keen to drive it forward, and it is very exciting to be a part of that."
