Iranian students ransack British embassy

HARDLINE students attacked the British embassy in central Tehran yesterday, burning the Union flag and smashing windows in a protest against sanctions imposed over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Infiltrators ransacked offices in the building and shouted “Death to England”.

Foreign Secretary William Hague said there would be “serious consequences”, while Prime Minister David Cameron branded the Iranian government a “disgrace” for failing to protect the UK’s mission.

He said he held Tehran responsible for an “unacceptable failure to protect diplomats in line with international law”.

The Iranian foreign ministry expressed regret over the attacks last night.
