Scheme launched to protect youngsters
The Sport, Leisure and the Arts Accreditation Scheme (SLAAS) was developed by sportscotland and charity Children 1st to protect the welfare of children.
The scheme is being introduced in East Lothian, and will apply to organisations running activities for youngsters aged up to 16 in the county's seven sports centres, all schools and community centres.

Hide AdStaff trained in child protection legislation will be available to help clubs to ensure they have a named child protection contact in place, relevant training for staff, and a clear process for dealing with recruitment and selection.
Councillor Ruth Currie, cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: "Participating in sport and arts activities has a positive influence on children, but these positive effects can only be achieved in organisations that place the welfare of children first.
"Accreditation will offer confidence to parents that the activity their children that is safe and well organised. It will also help organisations - many of whom are run by dedicated volunteers - to show commitment to high standards."
