£2.16m EU boost for jobs

FIRST Minister Alex Salmond has announced a multi-million-pound investment package to boost investment in jobs and sports development.

He announced 2.16 million to support local businesses in southern Scotland during a visit of the SNP cabinet to the region yesterday, as part of a nationwide summer tour.

Mr Salmond said the investment package, which is made up of European Union funds, would create 164 jobs in the Dumfries and Galloway and Borders areas.

A 400,000 grant was also announced to help to pay for three all-weather sports pitches in Stranraer, Dumfries and Annan.
