Letter: Funding farce

I WRITE to express my anger at the decision of Highland Council to withdraw funding from the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music. As a former student of NCETM, the centre has had outstanding success over the ten years since it was established, and for funding to be withdrawn now is an absolute tragedy. Highland councillors should be ashamed of themselves.

I also must state that the First Minister and the Scottish Government must intervene to try to secure funding for the Centre. The First Minister's response to Tavish Scott's question at First Minister's Questions (11 February) was poor. Perhaps the First Minister and the Scottish Government should perhaps look at funding the centre from central government resources since the music school is a national institution?
