Asghar’s plight

While everyone will have been moved by the plight of Mohammad Asghar, who is on death row in a Pakistani prison (your report, 18 October) and has been the victim of a shooting there, I am puzzled that he ever managed to get to Pakistan at all.

It is reported that he was sectioned in Edinburgh – apparently due to paranoid schizophrenia – in 2010, prior to travelling to Pakistan. So why was he permitted to travel there?

It does seem unfair to castigate Prime Minister David Cameron for doing nothing, without the facts being made known as to how this unfortunate man came to be in a country with such a deplorable record on human rights.
