May target for £600,000 park revamp

WORK is finally expected to get under way on a new pavilion for Colinton Mains Park by May.

The 600,000 revamp of the park and pavilion has been hit by a series of delays.

It was meant to go out to tender in October this year, but due to problems with the design process it will now not happen until later this month.

In a council report, director of finance Donald McGougan said: "The Colinton Mains Pavilion project (delay] is due to the tender process being scheduled for January, with works likely to begin in April/May."

The new community hall was part of the original agreement with housebuilder Applecross when it won consent to develop 170 homes on the Meggetland playing fields.

But the company collapsed into administration and never made the payment to city chiefs. The park is undergoing a major transformation that will result in improved pitches.
