Local News: Stranglers at full throttle for Capital gig

Rock icons, The Stranglers, are set to play at the HMV Picture House on Lothian Road next month.

The band will call into the venue with their Black and Blue and on Tour show on March 6.

They will be joined by special guests Wilko Johnson and Mike Marlin. The show begins at 7pm.

Tickets cost 23 and are available from www.hmvtickets.com. The venue is for over-14s only, under-16s will only be admitted with an adult, and photo ID is required for entry.

Volunteers gather for beach clean

THE Marine Conservation Society will be holding a beach clean at Cramond on 22 January.

Volunteers will pick up and record litter found on a 100m stretch of Cramond beach during the exercise.

Information collected will add to the monitoring of marine litter around the country's coasts.

The clean-up will run from 10am to noon, with volunteers meeting at the start of the Cramond Island causeway.

Bruce at architecture lecture

CITY council chief executive Sue Bruce will attend a lecture on the link between a city's architecture and politics, given by London Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic tonight. The event at the National Galleries of Scotland's Hawthornden Lecture Theatre starts at 6.30pm.

Housing help for disabled

ISSUES faced by people with disabilities trying to find suitable housing will be tackled at a conference next month. The event, hosted by Capability Scotland, will be held on Monday, 28 February at the Hilton Hotel at Edinburgh Airport and is open to professionals and disabled people.

Daredevils take the plunge for health charity

A SCOTS charity is hoping to rope in big-hearted volunteers for a fundraising abseil from Salisbury Crags later this month.

Capital daredevils are invited to plunge 70 feet from the "Black Chimney" area of the cliff dressed as their favourite festive character in aid of Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS).

Cameras focus on motorists

MOBILE speed cameras will be in operation across the Lothians from next Monday at the A90 Cramond, West Granton Road, Muirhouse Parkway, A70 Balerno, Comiston Road and in West Lothian at the A71 Polbeth, A89 Armadale, A706 Cairnie Place, A71 Briech, A705 East Whitburn, A899 Deer Park.
