Hunt is on after attack at Ikea store

POLICE are hunting a hammer- wielding attacker who struck and injured a man in the car park of the Ikea store at Straiton.

The 39-year-old victim suffered minor injuries after being assaulted by the suspect, who was wearing a balaclava.

The victim was sitting in his Jaguar car when the attacker approached the vehicle and struck it with the hammer. He then hit the victim with the weapon before fleeing the scene.

The attacker is described as being white, in his early 20s, and of slim build with muscular arms. He was wearing dark clothing and a black balaclava but may have been previously wearing a hat.

The incident took place in the store's car park at around 4.15pm on Sunday, September 12.

A police spokesman said officers were still investigating any possible motive behind the daylight attack.

He added: "Anyone who witnessed the incident, or can assist in identifying the male responsible, is asked to contact police immediately on 0131-311 3131 or Crimestoppers in confidence and anonymity on 0800 555 111."
