Ducks raise a few bob

THE organiser of a charity duck race who was told he could not raise funds for the event in an Edinburgh supermarket as it was "a form of gambling" has raised £1300.

Bill MacDonald, 63, was bemused when staff at Sainsbury's told him he could not sell the ducks at the Straiton store despite having been allowed to do so last year.

But after a change of heart by the store, Mr MacDonald was allowed to sell his ducks. The money raised will go to Children 1st and the Lothian family branch of the Scottish Huntington's Association.

Mr MacDonald said: "We didn't expect to raise as much as that so it's fantastic."
