'˜Compelling logic' behind Old Firm Hogmanay call, says police chief
Scotland's most senior police officer has defended the decision to schedule the next Old Firm match for Hogmanay.
The Scottish Licensed Trade Association yesterday became the latest organisation to call for the game between Rangers and Celtic to be moved.
Chief Constable Phil Gormley said: “There is no ideal time to have the game, but if you put it on New Year’s Eve at 12.30pm you reduce the risk of over-consumption of alcohol.
“You’ve also got a full transport infrastructure on so that people can get to and from the match.
“There’s a compelling logic around it.”
