Comrades' moving tribute on eve of Afghan hero's funeral

THE exact circumstances into Rifleman Scott McLaren's death in Afghanistan earlier this month following his disappearance from his Army checkpoint, remain a mystery.

• Scott McLaren

But what's patently clear from a long list of moving eulogies written by officers and comrades who served alongside the D Company Highlander in the 4th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland, is that the 20-year-old from Sighthill won't be forgotten.

The eulogies, released by the Ministry of Defence, pay vivid tribute to a young man who oozed character, quiet on the surface but kind and considerate, a passionate soldier, ferociously fit and with a shining future ahead of him.
