Cash boost at injuries clinic

A HOSPITAL facility set up to offer an alternative to accident and emergency is set for record investment, it has emerged.

The Western General's minor injuries unit dealt with a record 100,000 patients last year and is set to surpass the 2.3 million spend from 2010.

It is a key resource for health chiefs who are keen to divert more people away from the casualty departments at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and St John's Hospital in Livingston.

It is thought the majority of people at A&E have ailments which could be treated at the minor injuries clinic or by a GP.
